About Mr. Robert Curtis

Mr. Curtis is a seasoned attorney with more than 20 years experience in financial law, including estate planning, business formation & transactions, real estate and bankruptcy law. During his practice, Mr. Curtis has been primary counsel to many individuals, small businesses and larger business such as publicly traded companies. He primarily represents clients in Orange County, California in both domestic and international transactions.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA’s prestigious honors program in Economics and Business in 1985, Mr. Curtis obtained a Juris Doctorate degree from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1989. Mr. Curtis was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1989 and admitted to practice in the State of Colorado in 2002.
At the current time Mr. Curtis’ practice is primarily focused on legal transactions and investment matters for individuals and business. Mr. Curtis is experienced in formation of and administration of wills and trusts; formation and administration of business entities such as corporations. partnerships and limited liability companies (LLCs); negotiation and documentation of real estate transactions and foreclosures; and assistance with individual and business bankruptcies and reorganizations.
Mr. Curtis has extensive background in wealth management and financial planning, having been employed as a private accountant and as an NASD Series 7 licensed stock broker prior to becoming an attorney. During the past 20 years as an attorney Mr. Curtis has assisted many clients with estate planning, retirement plans and general business planning, currently making wills, trusts, retirement and business planning and transactions a central focus of his practice.
Mr. Curtis has extensive experience as counsel to business clients from the major industries located in Southern California and Orange County, California in both transactional and litigation matters. His current and former clients include health care providers, medical groups, physicians and dentists; professional firms such as accounting firms and law firms; commercial and multi-family real estate holding companies; single and multi-family real estate developers; licensed general and sub contractors; manufacturers of products such as of electronic components, circuit board assemblies, sports apparel and baby products; and distributors of building products and sports apparel.
Throughout his career, Mr. Curtis has made bankruptcy and reorganization an integral part of his practice. Although his current bankruptcy practice is limited to representation of individuals and businesses in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings, Mr. Curtis has in the past represented some of the nation’s largest mortgage lenders and automobile lenders in bankruptcy and reorganization matters. Mr. Curtis has also been employed as a professor of bankruptcy law and consulted and been employed as an expert witness on bankruptcy legal matters in court trials and other proceedings.
Although Mr. Curtis does not currently make litigation and trial work a part of his practice, he has in the past acted as lead trial counsel in numerous judicial and jury trials in California Superior Courts, Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts. He has also represented parties in many appeals to the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel of the Ninth Circuit, the Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fifth, Ninth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the California Courts of Appeal.
