Bankruptcies in Orange County per capita up 34%

The US Courts informed today that 6.12 bankruptcies were filed per 1000 population during last year (10/01/2009 to 09/30/2010) in Orange County, which represents an increase of 34% compared to a year earlier. And even though non-business bankruptcy filings continued to rise during this period, business filings dropped slightly for the first time since 2006.

The following is a chart that shows how bankruptcies in OC have risen since 2007:

  • San Diego County: 7.35

Non-business bankruptcy filings totaled 1,538,033, up 14.4 percent from the 1,344,095 non-business bankruptcy filings in September 2009. This is the highest number of non-business filings for a fiscal year since 2005.

Specifically speaking of Chapter 7 Bankruptcy filings, in 2010 they totaled 1,146,511, up 15.9 percent from the 989,227 chapter 7 filings in 2009.
